Weddings in Forte Da Cruz
Karina and I have been working in the wedding industry for over 10 years and Forte Da Cruz is one of the most unique venues we have had the pleasure of working in. It was constructed in the 17th century as part of a line of defence from potential beach invasions. In 1894 it was purchased by the the great grandfather of the current owner who at the time kept the tradition of accompanying the King and his court every year during the summer holidays to Estoril and Cascais. At this point in time it had become fashionable to swim in the sea and the area of Estoril was a well know area for therapeutic waters and springs. The fort was restored and transformed into a house which combined elements of a tuscan castle with the original military purpose, resulting in a stunningly eye catching landmark on the Estoril coastline. As a wedding venue Forte Da Cruz is perfectly positioned by the water with open terraces and 360 degree views. It’s close proximity to Lisbon and Cascais ensure guests and couples alike can arrive and depart with ease from this location.
The Ceremony
The ceremony location in Forte Da Cruz is usually outdoors on the lower terrace overlooking the ocean. This has a capacity for 80 people. In Portugal you can be guaranteed almost 300 days of sunshine so generally speaking the ceremonies are outside, if not there are beautiful bright indoor alternatives. In some of the historic rooms inside you can also seat up to 80 people. The indoor marquee on the upper terrace seats up to 250 guests.
Drinks Reception
The drinks reception and welcome drinks tend to happen on the lower and upper terraces and also in a variety of the historic rooms of the fort. Guests can mingle whilst enjoying the ocean views and sunset over the bay of Cascais. Many couples choose to cut their cake during the drinks reception on the terrace accompanied by a beautiful sparkler tunnel organised by Forte Da Cruz.
Dinner
Dinner is held in the marquee upper terrace with a backdrop of the ocean on one side and 17th century architecture on the other. Guests have the space to still enjoy their surroundings and watch the sunset through dinner with the sound of the sea right outside the dining area. Penha Longa are in charge of the catering in Forte Da Cruz and the meals are executed with precision and great finesse.
Dancing
The nighttime celebrations in Forte Da Cruz are a very special event. The DJ or band usually sets up in one of the historic rooms and guests are invited to the indoor bar and dance floor area. For guests that don’t enjoy dancing it’s possible to make your way to the turret that overlooks the bay to watch the distant lights of Lisbon to the left and the shimmering lights of Cascais to the right. A beautiful destination wedding venue that will delight and capture the imagination and hearts of you and your guests.
